How do I break in my Dr. Martens?
Breaking in your Docs will take time and patience, but everyone goes through it. Read on to discover the ways to make this rite of passage go smoothly - we've got you covered.
1. Get the perfect fit
If you normally take half a size, we recommend sizing down. The boots should feel tight but not uncomfortable. If the boot feels uncomfortable when you try it on, especially in the width, then it is too small. Docs will soften and stretch as you wear them in - You can check out our size guide for more information.2. Wear thick socks and keep your laces tight
Wearing thick socks will protect your feet + encourage the leather to warm up + soften faster. Keep your laces tight to encourage the boot to mould to your foot and avoid rubbing.
3. If they're brand new, start with 1-2 hour intervals
Begin by wearing your Docs around the house for short periods of time. Don't attempt a festival or long walk the first time you wear them. Some leathers stretch quicker than others, Nappa, Carpathian and Virginia are some great soft leather options.4. Wonder Balsam
To help speed up the process, we recommend using Dr. Marten's Wonder Balsam. This little pot of gold contains a mix of lanolin, beeswax and coconut oil to help soften the leather. It also adds a protective layer and subtle shine to your boots.
5. Repeat until they're perfect
Follow the mentioned steps above until your boots are soft and shaped to your foot.Throughout the years, we've heard all sorts... Let us know how you break in yours!

How does Birkenstock sizing work?
Finding your Birkenstock size & fit
Birkenstock cater to differently shaped feet by offering Regular and Narrow widths. Whilst Hype DC mainly stock regular width Birkenstocks, narrow width styles are also often available in some colours and styles. The fit will be specified in the product details online.
Birkenstock is a European brand, so sizing will be displayed in EU when shopping online. How to measure
To find your size and fit in Birkenstock, we recommend measuring your feet and comparing this with the Birkenstock size guides below.- Stand with the back of your heel against a wall and measure the distance from the wall to the tip of your longest toe.
- To this measurement, add 1cm to allow your foot room to move. This will give you the footbed length you need to find your size.
- Measure the width of your foot, across the its broadest part. This will indicate whether you need a narrow or regular width.
Example: Naomi's foot measures 25cm long and 9.6cm wide. Naomi adds 1cm to her foot's length to create a total footbed length of 26cm. The Adults: Regular Width table below shows that a Euro 40 Regular will be her best fit. However, if Naomi's foot measured only 9.5cm wide, then a Euro 40 Narrow from the Adults: Narrow Width table would be her best fit.

How do I read the symbols on the Birkenstock footbed?
- Width indicator
If the foot symbol is not coloured-in, the shoe has a regular width. If the foot symbol is coloured-in, the shoe has a narrow width. - Sizing:
- The large number shows the European size, eg '41'.
- The smaller number underneath, eg. '265' shows the metric footbed length, in this case 265mm.

Can I recycle my old shoes?
Recycle your old shoes at participating Hype DC Stores.
We've partnered up with the Australian Sporting Goods Association to help reduce the amount of footwear in landfill.
WHY
Each year, over 25 million pairs of sports shoes are imported into Australia, with only 1% estimated to be recycled. Once they reach landfill, these shoes can then take up to 1000 years to decompose.
WHATWe can only accept sneakers, trainers/runners, athletic lifestyle and sport brand shoes, thongs/slides, football and golf boots for recycling. Business footwear, steel cap boots, work boots, wedges/heels/pumps and boots cannot be collected at this time.
HOWSimply bring your old sneakers into a participating Hype DC store (listed below), where it will then be collected and given a new life by ASGA.

How can I break into my new shoes faster?
Need tips on breaking in your new shoes? Here's how.
Get the right fit. With wear, your new shoes will stretch widthwise, but not lengthwise. Make sure to have at least 1cm of space from the tip of your longest toe to the front of the shoe. If you have a wide foot, choose a wide fitting style which will allow your toes to spread comfortably. Before ordering online, chat to our Product Experts either via Live Chat or email.
Take it slow.
Start by wearing your new shoes for short periods of time. Begin by wearing them around the house so that you can take them off if your feet ache or they start to rub.
Tighten the laces.
It may be tempting to loosen the laces to allow more room inside the shoe, however, tying them up tightly will help to stretch the fabric and speed up the break-in process.
Grab your thickest socks.
Wear your thickest socks whilst you break in your new shoes. It will create a thick, padded layer between your feet and your new shoes which will prevent rubbing and blisters. The bulkiness of the socks will also help to stretch the material of the shoe.
